Chapter Five
THE GREAT SING
"Look
out!" Dan jerked Phil toward him out of the grasp of a reptilian hand. The sharp
claws at the end of the fingers just missed Phil's arm. Green mist wafted in the air as
the door closed. It closed over
the three of them, damp and suffocating.
"What was it?" Phil had recovered his balance,
but his face remained pale.
"My God, what's happening? I thought we were safe
here." Laura scanned their surroundings, her eyes wide with shock.
The expressions on Eri and Uza showed great concern at the
obvious terror of their charges. Uza asked what happened. The reached and patted the trio
awkwardly with their big hands.
"You didn't see it?" Laura's eyes were still
wide.
"No, but if there is a problem, why don't you stand
right in front of us. Nothing can hurt you there."
"Good idea." Dan led the way as they took
positions just in front of their hosts. Dan's gaze swept over the huge crowd from his
vantage point on the top row of the amphitheater. He, Phil and Laura had to stand in order
to see. Safely wedged between the knees of Uza and Eri, they studied the crowd.
Dan compared the crowd with the multitudes at a Super Bowl
game. Thousands attended the Super Bowl. This had to be millions.
Phil nudged Dan and pointed. On the other side of the stage
stood a row of people their own size and smaller. Some looked human and others appeared
reptilian. Some were fetus-like, and the alien grays so commonly reported in their own
time were there, only these grays had normal size mouths. His eyes snapped back to the
goggle-eyed reptilian. He tried to see the hands. He could not tell from his distance if
they had claws or not. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end.
Dan pointed. "Eri, who are those people?"
"they are ambassadors and dignitaries from other star
systems that King Lucifer has allowed to attend this event. their ships are in orbit on
the other side of the water. They must be escorted to the surface in our ships. It's the
only way they can enter. The frozen hydrogen of the water wall is very thick and metallic.
No one can pass through without help from us."
"Ships from other systems can't get through the water
wall?"
"Only our ships."
Dan pointed to the reptilians. "Do they have claws or
finger nails?"
Uza's brow furrowed at the strange question. "I
believe they have claws."
Dan persisted with his questions. "I saw an arm and
hand like that come through a doorway full of green mist grabbing for Phil and before I
came to the city they tried to get RC. Who or what is after us and why?"
"I have no idea. You are the only one who has ever
seen such a thing. There's nothing here that can harm anyone. You must be seeing
things." Eri patted Dan gently on the shoulder trying to comfort and reassure him.
Dan, Phil, and Laura exchanged anxious glances.
"How do you suppose those green mist monsters got
through the water wall?" Laura questioned anyone who had an answer.
"Phil must be right. They are from right here or
from the future or something, but why can't Eri and Uza see them?" Dan whispered loud
enough for Phil and Laura to hear. Their hosts were engrossed in the proceedings on stage.
"I still say they are probably demons from our time
who are bound to the earth and can travel through time with us. They can't affect the
members of this civilization, because to them, demons do not exist yet. We are fair game,
however." Phil cleared his throat and looked at Dan.
"Well, that's a comforting thought!" Dan said
sarcastically.
"What are we waiting for?" Phil asked Uza as he
stared at the empty stage.
"Watch."
A hush fell over the crowd on the flat topped Mountain of
God. All eyes focused skyward. Dan spotted a pinpoint of light that appeared to be growing
larger.
This angel was huge, at least twice as tall as Salamas. His
whole body seemed to glow with its own light. He landed lightly as a feather on the stage
and strode to the jeweled throne in its center. A rainbow of exquisite jewels clothed him.
He carried an instrument in his hand.
"He's absolutely gorgeous, " Laura sighed never
taking her eyes from him.
"Yeah," Dan and Phil agreed dazzled by the
magnificent display of jewels.
Other angels and some Atlanteans joined him on the stage.
Some of them carried musical instruments.
Laura tugged at Eri's tunic. "who is he?"
"King Lucifer, the angel assigned by God to rule the
Earth."
Phil and Dan just stared.
Lucifer lifted the pipes to his lips as his piercing blue
eyes scanned the crowd. It seemed to Dan he stared directly at him and knew his every
thought. The huge angel help up his arm and the others on stage lifted their instruments
as well. Wonderful sound came forth rolling over the crowd. Now everyone lifted their
faces toward heaven and sang.
They all understood the words. Every word was praise to
God. The music went on for over an hour. Some people had fallen to their knees with hands
up in adoration. Phil did the same. Laura followed his example. Dan just watched warily.
He had never heard such wonderful words and sounds. A longing he could not identify rose
up within him He remained silent and just watched and listened.
After they had returned to the house, Dan asked Phil if he
understood the meaning of the event.
Laura asked why the music and word caused such a longing.
"It was praise and worship to God. The longing is your
heart calling out to Him. He's the only One who can fill that empty space."
"But that was Satan leading that singing," Dan
argued.
"He wasn't always God's enemy. In this time they are
close friends. Lucifer becomes power mad and lifted in pride later and betrays God. The
betrayal is so terrible, God created a place called Hell as Lucifer's ultimate destination
and his fallen angels with him."
"Then how come people go to Hell?" Dan thought he
stumped Phil this time.
"Lucifer has no choice. Anyone put in position of
great authority also has great responsibility along with the privileges. He has great
favor in this time. Now his destination is Hell. No choice. Man goes there by his own
choosing by rejecting the One sent to redeem us."
"I don't want to go to that awful place. What do I
have to do to stay out of Hell?" Laura asked.
"Just ask Him to forgive all your sins and come into
your heart. You must repent and turn from your former life and surrender to Him."
"That's all there is to it?" Laura's eyes filled
with tears.
"Just pray with me." Phil looked at Dan. "Do
you want to pray, too?"
"No, thanks!"
Dan retreated. He kept his distance eyeing them with
feigned amusement. He had no need for such things, but he could not understand why he felt
so uncomfortable.
Laura knelt beside Phil and followed him in prayer.
