Chapter Seven
ABDUCTED!
The
shimmer of a force field surrounded the city accompanied by a low-pitched hum. Pedestrians
and motorists alike crowded the streets. Music blared there and there; music with a heavy
beat. It sounded different from what it had been . People passing in the street cursed as
they jostled each other. Beings from other star systems scurried about digging the huge Atlanteans. Dan, Phil and
Laura went unnoticed as just one more race from another planet. They were just tourists.
Everyone hurried. Very few smiled.
"Everything has changed," Dan said, "except
the language. That sounds familiar."
"I wonder if Eri and Usa are still here
somewhere," Laura said mostly to herself.
"Probably dead by now. They probably had an
unfortunate accident or something for not bowing down to Lucifer. I'm guessing several
millennia has passed and Lucifer's plan has already been in effect for a long time. The
meeting was just a formality." Phil said.
Curious stares followed RC who trotted along with them, as
if no one had ever seen such a creature before.
Dan stopped and picked the little creature up then peered
around him. "We need someone we can talk to. Think I'll try that woman over there.
She seems to be waiting for someone. Maybe she'll talk to us." Dan walked toward the
woman, smiling his most charming smile to show his good intentions.
RC suddenly cowered and whined in his arms. Dan did not
hear the swish of an opening door. Green light and fog surrounded, suffocating and damp.
Clawed hands pulled at him He heard the high-pitched, terrified yelp from RC that was
ominously and suddenly cut off.
Terrified himself Dan struggled and screamed for Phil to
help him, but he could not see Phil or Laura anywhere. He saw only a bright light and
green fog. He could not breathe.
Hands grasped his head. An uneasy peace encompassed him
pushing away his terror then everything went black.
***
"Oh my God! What happened to Dan? Did you see that? It
happened so fast we didn't even have a chance to move." Laura was shaking and crying.
"What will we do now? How do we find him?"
The Atlantean woman was staring in their direction.
"Let's ask her if she knows anything about it,"
Phil waved at the woman and approached her, pulling Laura along with him. "Did you
see that? Did you see what happened to my friend? Can you tell me anything about it? How
do we find him?"
"See what? I don't know what you're talking about. The
only people I see are you two."
"You didn't see the man who was with us disappear in
that bright green light?" Laura's eyes were wide and incredulous.
"I saw a man carrying a creature that's been extinct
for millions of years a few minutes ago. I thought he just went in a doorway or
disappeared around a corner. Are you all right? You look ill."
Laura fought down a rising nausea. Her head felt light. She
teetered off balance. Phil caught her. She leaned against him a moment, tears welling in
her eyes. "I don't think I like this place anymore."
"I don't think I do either!"
XXX
Betty, where are you?" Dan could see
Betty's face framed by red hair. Her green eyes swept over his face tenderly. Longing
filled him. What had he done? Why did he get so drunk. If he had stayed sober none of this
would have happened to him He wanted his wife...his son. All these adventures were
meaningless without her; them. Will I ever see them again? God, help me. I want to go
home.
Visions of Betty on their wedding day, so beautiful in her
white dress, the sound of her laughter and the first meal she cooked burned to a crisp
floated through his mind.
The visions disappeared in a swirling mist that turned
green and ominous. Dan struggled to wake up and move his legs, arms, anything. Nothing
moved, but he managed to open his eyes. He lay on something cold, hard, and metallic.
Figures surrounded him. Huge unblinking onyx eyes stared at him. The grays; only these
grays had just a small slit for a mouth. The tallest one held a long sharp, instrument. A
blinding bluish white light shone down on Dan. It reminded him of an operating room.
"What are you doing?" he demanded in Atlantean.
He strained to move his arms, but to no avail.
They seemed startled at his outburst. He felt thoughts
being pushed into his head. Thoughts in English. "We won't hurt you. Don't be
afraid."
"Tell me what you're doing and why I'm
here?" Terror had been replaced by an overpowering hatred and rage as he stared
into the cold unblinking eyes of his captors. He could not pull his eyes away. He felt his
will draining away as he stared into the eyes of the tall gray.
It spoke in his head. "We won't hurt you. You'll be
all right."
His mind drifted and he slowly relaxed. He could sense them
communicating and understood the words, but it did not seem to matter.
"It's too soon. He doesn't have it yet. There are no
memories of a black box. He must go back. He will find it for us. Send his pet back with
him. He must not remember any of this."
Forget? Fat chance of that, Dan thought to himself as he
drifted off to sleep.
The gray with the long sharp instrument quickly and deftly
inserted the instrument up his nose until Dan heard a popping sound and agony filled him.
He screamed.
The gray at his head put a hand over his face.
XXX
Dan felt someone shaking him. He slowly and cautiously
opened one eye.
"Wake up, wake up!" Phil shouted at him with
Laura anxiously looking over his shoulder. Relief and concern written on his face Phil
pulled Dan to a sitting position.
"We thought we had lost you for good." Laura said
through sniffles as tears flowed.
Dan looked at them blankly as RC curled up at his feet.
"What happened?"
"We were hoping you would tell us," Phil said.
"You walked across a street to talk to an Atlantean woman; a bright green light
appeared. Then you and RC disappeared.
"I don't remember anything," Dan said looking
around him. they were on a grassy knoll just inside the city gates. "How long have I
been gone?"
"Five long days," Laura said. "We thought
you were dead."
"That's impossible. I couldn't have been gone more
than five hours." Dan patted RC then sneezed so violently it almost threw him off
balance. Something warm and sticky ran down into his mouth and dripped off his chin. He
put his hand up to wipe it away.
"You're bleeding!" Laura took a scarf out of her
pocket and began mopping his face.
"You must remember something,," Phil insisted.
"Apply pressure to make the bleeding stop," Laura
instructed.
Dan did as he was told as he tried to remember. His head
ached just behind his eyes.
"Maybe I'll remember later. In the meantime, tell me
what you have found out over the past few days."
Phil and Laura looked at each other. "You tell him,
Phil."
"We were in shock for awhile and it was hard to
concentrate, but we finally did find out a few things. That lady you were going to talk to
referred us to a museum for answers to our questions. She is over five hundred years old
herself and can't remember a time when the road was gold and the walls had that gemstone
covering. she said there were legends about it, but goes way back in history. We also
found out that Lucifer has several churches or temples in each city. She didn't know what
I was talking about when I mentioned God the Most High. She said Lucifer was god here.
Remember what we heard Lucifer and the others talking about? Apparently his plan had
already been in operation for a long time. He's getting ready to extend it to other worlds
where his angels are in control. Earth has been his testing ground."
"What about Salamas? What's happened to
him?"
"No one has ever heard of him. Some angel named,
Apollyon, governs the city for Lucifer. Apollyon means destruction. I read that somewhere.
Anyway, it's my theory the good angels have been banished from the Earth by Lucifer.
Salamas must have been one of them."
" Banished to where?"
"He's probably serving the Most High on another
distant world. Who can say?
"We tried to find out how many years had passed since
our last visit, but we had no reference points. All the events or sights we would mention
were so far in the past, no one could remember even reading about it."
"Think there might be some historical revisionism
going on to keep people in the dark about the real God?" Laura asked.
"No doubt about it. Sounds like something Lucifer
would do, all right. We talked to the curator of the museum. We saw skeletons of the
little animals like RC. Can't remember the name they used. Sounded something like bamba.
Anyway, that animal is now extinct. Just think, RC is one of a kind now.
"Hear that humming? We were right. It is a force field
that surrounds the city. No one walks that road outside the gates anymore. The only mode
of travel outside the city is by flying. The dinosaurs have become man-eaters. Many people
are maimed or eaten all the time."
Another violent sneeze shook Dan's body. He felt something
fly out of his nose. A tiny white sphere landed in the grass and his nose began dripping
blood again. He reapplied the scarf Laura had given him, applying pressure as he picked up
the object. RC was nowhere to be seen.
The three of them examined the object in Dan's hand.
"What is it?" Dan asked as he turned it in all
directions.
"Looks like an implant," Phil said.
Laura and Dan looked at him curiously.
"I lived in Roswell. We heard a lot about this sort of
thing. UFOs and abductions...you know? These creatures implant objects into people for
tracking them, controlling them. Who knows what all the objects are for? God is with you.
You sneezed it out before it could really be used for anything."
"If God is with me, why did He let it happen in the
first place?"
"If you truly belonged to Him you would have the
authority to call on Him to stop it."
"And how would I do that?"
"As a believer you just tell them to take a hike in
Jesus Name."
"You're kidding!"
"I'd never kid you about a thing like that."
Dan held the scarf to his nose and mused over what Phil
told him. There's more to this salvation stuff than I thought. Phil is no sissy and I
always thought Christianity was sissy stuff. Authority! I like the sound of that. Would I
have that kind of authority? Could I get rid of this scared feeling I always have at the
pit of my stomach?
Can You get me home so I can have a chance to take care of
my family? All I have to do is ask You to take over and You will? OK, I'm asking, God, I'm
asking. I don't ever want to be at the mercy of those monsters again.
"There was probably a purpose to it and I don't mean
just their purpose," Laura said, watching Dan curiously. "If you could just
remember what happened when you were with them maybe we could use it to our
advantage."
Phil gazed at Laura in admiration. "You are absolutely
right."
"It's getting dark," Dan observed. "Have you
noticed the darkness is darker than it used to be?" Dan stared at the sky curiously.
"We can go back to the old house. It is deserted. I
don't think anyone has lived there for years. Can't understand why. It is a perfectly good
house." Phil headed off in that direction with the others following.
"It still has that wonderful peaceful atmosphere from
when Eri and Usa were there," Laura said.
"Probably makes people in this age feel
uncomfortable." Dan picked up RC. The little creature was obviously tiring. "The
air still feels good, but it doesn't smell as good. I've noticed that, too."
They heard a thundering roar behind them. Terrified they
looked around. A huge Tyrannosaur with gaping jaws open ran toward them making the ground
shake. The city gates were closed, but the beast towered over the gate.
Laura stumbled and fell as she ran. Phil and Dan
simultaneously reached for her and dragged her behind a large stone as they stopped to
watch in fascination.
With an earsplitting roar the monster leaped toward them
and bounced off an invisible wall. It sprawled on the ground in surprise, then got up and
tried again.
They all watched as it bounced off time after time before
it gave up in search of more available prey.
"Thank God for the force field, Laura sighed.
"Let's get to the house."
XXX
Phil and Laura had cleaned and made the house livable while
Dan was gone.
Exhausted Dan fell into his makeshift bed and was instantly
asleep. This time his sleep truly was peaceful.
XXX
He felt a presence in the room. Dan opened his eyes and
found himself staring up into hugh black eyes. He tried to sit up and discovered he could
not move. Others had entered the white light bathed room; he could see grays and
reptilians. In his mind he could hear them discussing him as if he were not there. They
did not seem to care if he could hear their thoughts or not. He felt a comforting presence
and all fear left. He knew what he had to do. He decided to watch and listen first.
"He must go back to Atlantis. He can lead us to the
black box and the masterpiece."
"The masterpiece; what is it?"
"He will know, then we will know."
