Chapter Ten

Forbidden Things

Flowers and trees were in full bloom everywhere in mid May in the picturesque town of Baraboo, Wisconsin, population something over ten thousand. Birds twittered in joyful song and squirrels chased each other from tree to tree.  Air perfumed by the scent of flowers and trees gave the town a smell and character all its own. Unfolding horror lay hidden beneath the bright colors and green foliage. Who could know it?

“I need your help, John. I’m running out of time.” Paul Schultz ran a trembling hand through his sweat soaked blond hair. His sudden appearance in the small town of Baraboo, Wisconsin had been a shock to John Murphy who had not seen his friend in almost three decades. His gray complexion and haunted eyes shocked the hard-nosed  ex-homicide detective.

“Has the doctor told you a specific time?” The stocky fifty-something John Murphy, absently rubbed his souvenir from the Vietcong, a thick silver scar that ran from the corner of his left eye to his jaw as he refilled his pipe with cherry blend tobacco.  The scar pulled down the corner of one of his ice blue eyes giving him a fierce look. Using a special lighter he lit up, took a long drag and let the fragrant tobacco make a wreath around his head.

“Nothing has changed, but there are people not willing to wait until my illness does its job.” He sighed and settled down in his seat taking a last sip of coffee, as he got ready to tell his story. “Let’s order more coffee. This could take awhile. ”

As soon as the coffee cups were refilled John said. “I’m listening.”

“You’ll get two floppy disks with all the information contained in my journals. I burned the originals that were on paper so they would not fall into the wrong hands. Everything Jeremiah told us is in those journals including the location of that canyon and the cave. You know, of course, that I have kept them since…his death.”

John blanched a little at the name and his scar turned vivid purple.

“There are things we must remember, John, but for now I am going to tell you the same things I tell people at my meetings.

“This happened when I was still in Roswell. I’m sure they know where I am now. A black 1958 Cadillac has been following me. I saw four people. One had on a high-ranking military uniform, one guy dressed all in black and the other two looked like those pale men in my nightmare. (I’ll tell you the nightmare later)

“If I am ever found dead, it will be murder, not suicide. I’ve been wounded many times and always fought to live. I even told my ex-wife to never pull the plug should I have to be put on life support. Who knows? I might come back. I want to live as long as I can to get this message out.”

John knew he meant it. He wasn’t sure of all the stuff about UFOs and aliens, but he knew Paul believed it. He had a vague memory that he had once believed it as well. For some reason those memories seemed to have been erased from his mind.

As far as he was concerned, Paul was a true hero. He kept speaking what he believed to be the truth no matter what. He believed it to be worth dying for.

Paul continued, “Angels ruled the ancient civilizations of the past, not aliens.  Most people would rather believe in alien superiority than to believe there is a God, a devil and angels.

“When Lucifer rebelled, those who followed him ruled star systems and planets as gods. They gave the ancient mortal beings that were here the secrets of how to chain the forces of the universe to build the great stone structures that have lasted at least twelve thousand years through two floods. The legends of Atlantis are true. It was the civilization destroyed before Adam and Eve were created. After Adam bit the apple fallen angels once again eventually ruled as gods, but were then restricted to this solar system.

“There is something else I never quite got. I thought it was the Atlanteans who built the pyramids but now I am not so sure. They may have been built by others.  I want to know who those ‘others’ are and what structures were built. I have some ideas but need more proof.”

John knocked the spent ashes out of his pipe and refilled it again as he listened.

“Jeremiah told us to count the seventh generation from Adam and we would know who planned and built these other structures. I figured it out. It would have had to be Enoch the one who walked with God and was taken to heaven without dying and he passed that knowledge on to his long lived son, Methuselah. .

“The purpose of the pyramids was never made clear.  It is another mystery we must figure out. The answer is in that cave. We have to go back…all of us, Myrna included.”

John mulled that thought over. Even theologians balked at some of Paul’s ideas and the secular world…well who knows? UFO groups theorized their own truths and each group thought they had the ultimate truth and none of them included God in it. In fact they thought it proved there was no God. Nothing seemed to make sense anymore. After his death experience in Viet Nam he had his doubts about God as well.  A fact he kept hidden from his wife, Myrna.

Paul Schultz cleared his throat. “I helped to build underground bases for the military when I worked at area 51. These bases are located all over the world. One hundred and forty of them are located in this country alone.

“At four miles down, the deepest base is in Dulce, New Mexico. It extends miles in all directions. The one in Sedona, Arizona is being extended from two miles to four miles deep also. I didn’t build it, but I believe that there is an underground base at Roswell.

“It was my job to go down the holes, check the rock samples, and recommend the explosives to deal with that particular kind of rock. In the process the workers accidentally opened a large artificial cavern, a secret base for the aliens known as Grays. In the panic that ensued, sixty plus workers and military personnel were killed. I was one of only three people to survive.

“The scars on my chest are a result of being hit by an alien weapon called a particle beam.” He held up his hand for John to see.  “I also lost three fingers.”

John shook his head. Sounded like something out of a science-fiction movie.

“My wounds have resulted in cancer from radiation. My breastbone is a hard silicone. Other things happened to me that could not be mentioned in a mixed crowd.”

Paul held up his cup and motioned to the waitress that he needed a refill then he also ordered a piece of key lime pie. John indicated he would have the same. As soon as they were served Paul continued.

“I had a near-death experience following my encounter with aliens in the tunnel. I believe aliens are really demons and angels and these demons are the spirit remains of that first civilization, the offspring of angels and the earthly inhabitants at that time. They’re still up to their old tricks messing with the human Genome. In Genesis six, angels left their high estate of existence and fornicated with human women. Lucifer encouraged it. It would contaminate the human gene pool so the promised Son of God could not be born unless God would give them a share of the inheritance meant only for humans.”

John had to ask. “OK, tell me this. I never did understand what made this Lucifer or the devil get so full of pride that he rebelled and caused not just himself but so many angels to follow suit.”

“Angels are created fully adult, functional, powerful and put in a perfect environment. They still have free will.

“Being close to God, Lucifer was privy to God’s plan to create man in His own image and make mankind part of His family, not just separate created beings, but heirs to everything God has and is. Being God’s most high ranking, powerful and beautiful of all the angels, Lucifer thought this honor should go to him. His anger and resentment grew until he openly rebelled taking a third of the angels with him. They became system lords to various near-by star systems and other planets of this solar system. They were like a bunch of feudal barons fighting among themselves.  Satan and his minions hate us and will do anything to influence our free will away from God. He thinks he can hurt God by taking us away from Him.”

“Why didn’t He create us with all these powers like the angels have?”

“He did, my friend, he did. Adam just goofed it up for all of us. Before that he had great power. We’ll have it back one day according to our free choice. God doesn’t want puppets. He wants us to choose Him on our own. That’s what makes us so different from the angels. While we are here, we’re in school. How we choose while here determines what we will be doing through all eternity. Most of those great cloud of witnesses are angels. God is teaching them through us. Interesting ..eh? We are their examples.”

“So what comes next, Paul? What do you want Myrna and me to do? You know I don’t believe as you do. I have a hard time believing in a loving God after what I’ve been through. I still stick to my one woman, but I have a number of vices I have no intention of giving up.” At that he took another puff from his curved Sherlock Holmes pipe to emphasize his statement.

“Go with me back to Roswell and on to the Capitan Mountains and that cave. We have to do it.  Jeremiah was right when he said no one would bother to look for him. We were lucky. Myrna’s wound was a through and through so no one ever knew there was any gun play involved.

John looked doubtful. “If we go back now we’ll be in danger of digging all that up and raising questions we don’t want to answer.”

“Haven’t you ever wondered why those two guys never followed us after that?”

“To tell you the truth, it is as if the whole thing was wiped from my mind until now,” John mused. “They have to be the ones who are following you, Paul. These are dangerous people.”

“I am sure that is exactly who they are. As long as we never mentioned anything that happened in that valley or cave we were no threat. I am the one who has been talking. You are in danger now just for being here with me.”

“What exactly are we going to be looking for, Paul? Are we going to sit in that ruby chair again to get answers…if it’s still there that is?”

“If those guys knew where it was they would have it and this world would really be in a mess. They wouldn’t hesitate to put that weapon diagrammed in those plans to use.”

Finally Paul told him about the firefight in the tunnel and his near death experience.

XXX

Everyone at Area 51 waited for Schultz to detonate the charges. Any mistake could result in injury or death. He sighed heavily and signaled to the others in the dimly lit tunnel that the count down was about to begin.

Everyone took cover as the explosion reverberated through the tunnels. Dust puffed around them as they waited for the debris and echoes of sound to subside.

Instead of a tunnel expansion they found a large cavern. Their bright floodlights cast dark shadows. Schultz realized immediately it was not a natural formation. Groups of tall grays with large heads and huge, black eyes appeared and greeted them by tightening their long slender fingers around unrecognizable weapons. Beams of light exploded around them accompanied by screams of agony.

Drawing his weapon and firing shots into the largest group of grays, Schultz and two others backed into the tunnels. With satisfaction he saw two aliens go down. Then he turned and ran. The other two survivors had already disappeared down the tunnel.

Paul glanced behind him. The bodies of over sixty men were mounded in bloody heaps on the floor of the cavern. Too late, Schultz met the cold gaze of a Gray as the creature aimed and released a beam in his direction.

Sudden burning agony tore across his chest as he fell to the rocky floor. The unreal feel of the whole thing made everything seem like a horrible nightmare. The pain in his chest told him it was real enough. He plunged into sudden blackness.

XXX

Voices…voices; some far, some near speaking in several languages. Knowing more than eleven languages, he understood most of them.

“Who are you?” He was screaming, but there was no sound.

Faces whirled in a thick fog. They were strange faces, eerie faces with gray skin, hypnotic black eyes, and faces with eyes that had slit reptilian pupils and long arms with long slender fingers. There were beings of all shapes and sizes.

The picture cleared and he found himself in a dark cavern with several strange creatures. The creatures around him were waiting…waiting for something. A sense of dread filled him. He wished he could be anywhere but here.

Sniggering nightmarish creatures looked at him expectantly. He knew they were gauging his reactions. Others had joined them. Grotesque shapes like insects, bats, lizards and a mixture of these creatures in one entity were studying him with intense glee. They were mixtures of dark gray, black and red in color. Glowing eyes glared at him. Smelling of sulfur and rot they cackled while they watched him. They faded in and out of view like ghosts.

He shouted, “What do you want from me?”

Then Schultz saw them.

Two pale men with strange black eyes and dressed all in black stood behind the group. They turned those eyes upon the others, which caused an immediately hush. Soundlessly they opened a path for the two men. Obviously in command, they came forward and towered over him. Their eyes were of human size, but consisted entirely of black pupil. One of them spoke. “The two of us and others like us have been here since the beginning. We will win…and do you know why we will win, human? You don’t know how to obey the instructions, in the book you read. That is why!” The men threw back their heads and laughed. The others joined in. The sound was deafening. It echoed through the tunnels making Schultz’s head hurt.

The vision changed and a huge glowing entity put his hand on Paul’s head and all pain left him.  Indescribable beauty surrounded him. No flowers, mountains or scenes on earth could even come close. Peace filled him.  This angel had to be one of the good guys.

“Your description of the pale men following you sounds like the ones you saw in your nightmare.”

“That’s what scares me. We’re dealing with more than human enemies here. We have to get some answers, find out what we know that is so important to them or what they think we know.

“We need to leave for Roswell as soon as possible. Tell Myrna. I’ll make the flight arrangements. Your tickets will be waiting for you at the airport. We’ll leave a week from today. That will give me a chance to finish up a few things.”

John decided to wait until the next morning to tell his wife of over thirty years.

XXX

Myrna designed and decorated their home with its colonial style furniture and cozy décor that she loved so well. Cobalt blue drapes hung in the living room, pulled back to let the sun and scenery in. Light oak dining table and chairs set off the matching lighter blue rug and flowered living room furniture. The large picture window revealed birds, squirrels and a small fountain in the yard full of shrubs, trees and flowers. It was an ever-changing picture.

She baked her own bread. It was her recipe and melted in the mouth even without butter. Her large blue eyes framed by golden hair pulled back in a bun with long curls left dangling over her ears twinkled and the full lips parted in a smile as she waited for him to sit at the table. She then poured him coffee and took the bread out of the oven. It was her act of love and their special moment every morning.

John felt this would be the best time to relate what Paul told him and of their plans to go back to the cave.

Myrna remained quiet for a while. Finally she nodded her head in assent. They had no children and she was about to go on a long sabbatical from her teaching. She was ready for something new to do.
