Chapter 11 The Enemy's Lair Nervously twisting his handle bar mustache, General Wiley took a careful breath in the smoky room. A tribunal of twelve aging military and other men of mysterious origin looked to him to begin his report. "We have not only the greatest minds and technology at our disposal, but, also people who won't hesitate to do whatever must be done to insure the completion of our purpose with perfect secrecy. There are two men who must be eliminated. Paul Schultz is the most dangerous. He could blow us out of the water. He must be found. The other man can wait. The third survivor is loyal to us." A small man with pale face and trembling fingers smiled briefly. "He seems to have dropped off the face of the earth." His smile turned into a grimace. "Maybe he was abducted." "I fail to see any humor in this situation. We can send Boyd to find him. If he fails this time he can be disposed of. He's been freelancing. These killings are getting out of control. He is hunted in twelve states now. Stupid idiot. I don't trust people who kill just for pleasure. Too unstable and he's getting too much attention from the media." The hulking figure blew out a cloud of cigar smoke as he grunted and shifted his great weight in the complaining chair. "Our partners won't hesitate to do us in if we fail," the general said. "I saw them in action once before. Even with all I've seen, the memory makes me shudder." The door opened and he entered. Cold black eyes surveyed them all. the handsome face had a self-assured expression. Dressed all in black with black hair, slim hips and a relaxed slouched stance, he waited for General Wiley to speak. He was more than sixty years old and looked thirty. The others in the room wondered who his plastic surgeon was. He was shown the last picture they had of Paul Schultz and given his new orders. "I know this guy. He's one of those idiots who trapped us in that cavern. I wouldn't mind doing this job for free. I've waited a long blankity blank time to get my hands on him and his friends." "Caution is required here!" General Wiley was not impressed. "You are becoming too well known. We can't afford mistakes. You must quit your grandstanding for a time." "Of, course. I will do as you say." Boyd grinned. The smoke in the room swirled around everyone causing each to disappear. Boyd alone remained visible in the smoke a demonic grin pasted on his face. chap 12 Strange Death of Paul Schultz
