CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

CLONES, DEMONS AND ALIENS

Failing in their attempts to follow Boyd through the door into the conference room, they joined the milling crowd and searched the various holographic images of the many screens in the huge room.

In one scene they were shocked to see a surgical room with aliens and humans probing their human victim amid screams of agony. Shaken they turned to other scenes being monitored by grays, reptilians, humans in military uniforms and in plain clothes and others they could not identify. All of them were sitting at control panels with which they could stop action or enlarge certain segments of the picture for closer study.

No one paid any attention to their presence, as they seemed only to be part of the crowd of people.

They moved on to another section of pictures involving flying saucers taking off from a huge underground hanger that opened into one of the oceans. There were so many and they were all shapes and sizes. Other scenes showed ships in space between the earth and moon, some as far as Jupiter and Saturn. They seemed confined to the solar system. One ship tried to leave the confines of the solar system. It crashed into some sort of invisible barrier and disintegrated.

Jeremiah whispered. “You see that? They must have to stay in this solar system.”

“I wonder why the one ship tried to leave. The pilots must have known what would happen.” Sydney whispered back.

“Perhaps it is like being in a prison camp,” John offered. “They are obligated to try to escape. If that ship had succeeded, the others, no doubt, would have followed.” He kept glancing at the conference room door for Boyd’s reappearance.

“Look.” Myrna pointed at another scene. The others joined her as she studied the scene.

It was a room full of human bodies, clones probably. They appeared to be dead. Reptilians were moving around in the room and grotesque spirits that faded in and out of sight. The Reptilians seemed to be directing the spirits into the various bodies. When one or more spirits entered a body it animated and sat up. Some of the spirits looked like Reptilians and Grays and some of the other creatures they had seen in the underworld. Some were like grotesque insects only imagined in nightmares.

As soon as the bodies animated they went into another room that could be seen on another screen where they were receiving instructions. Tall human looking pale men in black with eyes comprised totally of black pupil were giving the instructions.

“The clones are infested with demons.” Myrna whispered. “I wonder how many of them are out there in the world fooling people. I feel sick.”

They all held their stomachs as the familiar nausea engulfed them all.

John glanced up in time to see Boyd coming out of the conference room.

The others caught sight of him as John dashed after Boyd. They caught up with him.

“Let’s use wisdom and follow him instead of confronting him. We will find where he hid the relics and plans for the weapon, nu?”

“He has a point, John.” Sydney agreed. “This is no time to let feelings of revenge cloud our minds.”

“Listen to them, John.” Myrna insisted, as she held tight to his arm.

Reluctantly he acknowledged their reasoning and they followed their quarry back to the way station and elevator crowded with others to the Denver Airport.

The nausea lessened as they concentrated on keeping Boyd in sight while being careful to stay out of sight as he purchased a ticket to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The departure time would be in three hours.

Waiting until he was out of sight, they also purchased tickets on the same plane.

“How do we keep him from seeing us when we get on that plane?” Sydney mumbled more to himself than to the others.

“While you men are figuring that out, I want to find Agnes and find out how she is doing. I don’t know how to tell her about her husband. I may just chicken out and tell her I couldn’t find him.”

John looked at his wife. “I’ve never known you to ‘chicken out’ about anything.” He smiled. “You’ll think of something. You can’t tell her what you found. She’ll never believe it. I don’t think anyone will believe it. We mention anything that we have seen and we’ll be labeled insane.”

“Would you like one of us to accompany you for moral support?” Sydney asked.

“No, no. She’s my friend. I will have to deal with it myself, but thanks for the offer. I’ll try to be back in an hour. Where will all of you be?”

“In that restaurant we passed a minute ago. Don’t feel like eating much, but maybe something to drink will settle our stomachs.” John hugged his wife briefly as she turned to leave.

Agnes was no longer where they had left her so Myrna searched through the crowds. She thought she remembered Agnes mention she and her husband were due to go back to Madison on an 8:P.M. flight so she searched the flight information boards until she found a matching flight.

She spotted Agnes’s bright red tam as she reached the waiting area. She raised her hand to wave for attention when she noticed Agnes talking with great animation to a tall man next to her. It was Bill! How was that possible? My God. Could it be? Perhaps it was a clone? Could her friend be in danger?

Agnes caught sight of her and waved happily. Myrna acknowledged with a nod and a smile and ducked out of sight before the Bill clone turned around.

She met the others at the designated restaurant, ordered a lemon lime drink to settle her stomach and then told them what she had seen.

“What do we do? What will that clone or whatever it is do to her?”

“I am thinking it is just a diversion. None of them wants an investigation into her husband’s disappearance. The clone may conveniently die of a heart attack or something so his death will never be connected to the airport. Makes sense, nu?”

Myrna still looked worried as she sipped her drink.

“We will all pray for her safety,” Jeremiah assured her.

“Right now we have to follow Boyd. The lives of millions depend on it,” Sydney said.

“What if he spots us?” Myrna wanted to know. “He won’t hesitate to kill us. He’s already tried several times.”

She pondered a moment. “I wonder what happened to his side kick.”

Sydney scowled. “They were always arguing, remember? Maybe he got rid of him.” He considered a moment unable to hold back the sense of dread brought on by his own words. “Maybe we should think about a disguise.”

“Impossible,” John retorted. “We have to match our ID photos to get on the plane. We will just have to disappear in the crowd as best we can and pretend we don’t see him if he happens to see any of us. We all have separated seats. That should help. It is when we get off the plane that we will have to be most cautious. I don’t think he got a connecting flight to Roswell so we may have to find a way to follow in Albuquerque. Four of us following will be too obvious.”

John pulled out his almost forgotten pipe as he pondered the situation. After he lit up and blew out a fragrant plume of smoke he spoke. “Jeremiah, you and Myrna go on to Roswell and we’ll meet you there at Syd’s house. Syd and I will tail him.” John’s scar had faded to a happy white. He was on the hunt again. He was in his element.

Myrna grasped John’s hand and squeezed. “Please be careful. That man is deadly.”

John kissed her hand affectionately and smiled. “I didn’t live this long as a cop by being stupid, my love. Not to worry. Just pray those angels to guard us.”

“We will both pray,” Jeremiah assured him.
