Chapter Thirty-One

EGYPT

“I am not liking airports very much anymore.” Jeremiah said as they got off their plane in Egypt.

“We could have come by ship, but it would’ve taken too long,” Syd said as they checked through customs and showed their passports.

“How much time do we really have, Jer?” Murphy looked around for a cab as they left the airport.

“Things will be happening very soon and very fast. I have a friend I have contacted here. He will pick us up. Be looking for a black vehicle with a picture of the Great Pyramid on the door.”

“When did you have time to make a friend in Egypt?” Murphy wanted to know.

“He is really from Israel, but passes himself off as Arab to avoid problems. He looks the part. I knew him in school many years ago when Paul and I were in classes together. I searched the Internet for him under the name I remembered when Syd showed me how to use the Internet. It was a miracle. I found him and called him. So amazed he was to hear from me as you might guess. He told me he would pick us up when we got here. I did not tell him why we were coming. I do not trust phone lines or the Internet. We will judge what we can tell him when we talk to him.”

“God really knows how to arrange things, doesn’t he?” Murphy laughed and lit up his pipe as he helped the others to watch for a black car with the Great Pyramid painted on the door.

Every black car they saw had pyramids painted on the doors. Tourist trade meant money to the people of Cairo. Murphy and Syd grinned as they watched people hawking souvenirs and food. A couple of small aggressive boys were tugging on them for attention trying to sell them statues of the Sphinx and other trinkets.

“We must give them money and buy a few trinkets. Remember we are tourists.” Jeremiah reminded them as he handed the boy nearest him a few bills and received a replica of the Sphinx in return. The other two did the same until a black car pulled up beside them and called to Jeremiah by name. He was still easy to recognize for he had not changed or aged much since the man had seen him last.

“Daniel, so happy I am to see you,” Jeremiah shouted as he reached through the window of the car to hug his friend.

“Shhhhhh!  You must call me Abdul and you must be called Rasheed. Hurry. You and your friends must get in. We are attracting too much attention.”

They all piled in and Abdul roared off as a few people stared after them in mild curiosity.

“I have taken the liberty of reserving rooms in one of our tourist trap hotels. I hope that is…how you say…OK.”

“Does it have a restaurant attached? I’m hungry.” Murphy put his now cold pipe back in his pocket.

“Me, too.” Syd added.

“Of course. Be careful of some of the foods. American palates may not be used to the food here. It can surprise you. Some of it is very spicy.”

Just then the call to worship could be heard from a mizzen in a minaret and some of the people walking down the street ducked into near-by places of worship for their mid-day prayers.

The downtown Cairo traffic ebbed and flowed with drivers screaming and shaking their fists at each other. Abdul’s passengers watched in amused fascination.   Finally they pulled up in front of one of the many hotels.

“I am going to park my car in a more secure place then I will meet with you. I am most curious about why you are here and volunteering to be your guide in this most interesting of places.”

XXX

Jeremiah finished telling Abdul why they had come to Egypt leaving out the part about the weapon.

Early in the story Syd and Murphy excused themselves and left to get something to eat promising to bring a meal to Jeremiah and Abdul by the time the two finished with the story. Being a long and complicated tale, it would take a while.

“I am having a difficult time believing this hollow earth and UFO part of your story so I will take it on faith because of my respect for you, my friend. You obviously believe it enough to risk coming here where we Jews are not exactly welcome. Remember to go by the name Rasheed and be sure your friends call you that even in private. The walls have ears around here.

You will all need clothes and equipment for your endeavors. I can see to that.”

Jeremiah got up and began to slowly pace the room. “We have enough money for any bribes needed and I can pay you for whatever equipment you deem necessary plus something for yourself.”

“I am in need of nothing.” Abdul insisted. His bright blue eyes stood out like lights in his bronzed face. Deep lines added intensity to his face not found in younger men. Shoulder length black hair streaked with gray was exposed as he removed his red checked Bedouin style headdress.  He stared at Jeremiah curiously. “You remain almost as I saw you last. The years have been good to you.”

“I can only thank our God for that.”

“What you intend to undertake is very dangerous. The Egyptian government will not be kind if you are caught. Your American friends will help give you more credibility as erring lost tourists, but still…I am afraid for you.”

“We do not wish to endanger you, Abdul. As far as anyone else is concerned you are only our hired guide and we requested you to drop us off and let us go on alone. That is what we will tell anyone who might question us should it come to that.”

“I am not afraid for myself, Rasheed. This should be quite an interesting adventure. I intend to go with you. The complete Books of Enoch, what a find that will be. I have always dreamed of such a thing. Even if you must hide them right away, I want only to look on them once and my life will have new meaning.”

“I will discuss it with my American friends,….Abdul.” Jeremiah smiled.

“And I will leave now to purchase clothes and equipment.”

“Are you not going to wait and join in our meal?”

“I will stop and get my own provisions. You enjoy. Talk to your friends. Convince them to let me be a part of your team.”

Jeremiah/Rasheed gave Abdul enough money to purchase equipment and an all terrain vehicle if one could be found.

XXX

Murphy and Syd were more than happy to have a new team member so familiar with local customs and the idiosyncrasies of the government go with them. The dun colored Hummer would almost be invisible in the desert. All their equipment and food had been loaded and new clothes put on. They admired each others new ‘Bedouin’ look as they climbed in leaving the driving to Abdul for obvious reasons.

As they passed the Cairo city limits they met up with tourists on buses and camels heading toward the pyramids towering in the distance. Boatloads of well heeled tourists floated luxuriously down the sparkling Nile as once Cleopatra might have done. There was almost a holiday atmosphere as they neared the pyramids and joined the groups of tourists oohing and aahing at the overwhelming sizes of the pyramids.

They got out of the Hummer. Abdul locked it up tight and joined them as they walked around the Great Pyramid.

Murphy and Syd stood and stared for a while. Jeremiah seemed preoccupied.

“What do you think, Syd?”

“It’s overwhelming, but it’s so…so…dead.”

“Yes. Strange isn’t it? I guess I expected to feel something different,” Murphy said.

“It is so old, is it not? Perhaps that is why it gives such a strange feeling.” Jeremiah gazed ahead, but seemed detached as if far away.

“Where do we go from here, my friend?” Abdul inquired.

“I do not know. We must wait until everyone has left. God will direct us then. We can go a way off and set up camp away from the tourists. The sun will soon go down. In the meantime we can go through the pyramid with the other tourists to pass the time.”

XXX

They joined a long line of tourists to go through the pyramid. The passages were narrow and damp and the stairs were steep. Even with the crowd of people it was quiet and the voice of the tour guide echoed eerily off the ancient walls. The antiquity of their surroundings caused the silence of respect and awe. How many other structures had withstood the ages as these structures on the plateau?

Syd poked Murphy to get his attention and nodded toward Jeremiah. He had what one could describe as the thousand-yard stare. It was as if he was seeing something entirely different than anyone else.

“Perhaps he is remembering something.” Abdul commented lowering his voice so others would not hear. “He did spend a lot of time in the past did he not?”

People behind them shuffled them forward as they followed the tour guide up another steep flight of stairs. They turned their attention back to their surroundings and what the guide was saying.

Abdul looked back to see if Jeremiah followed behind. He could not see him anywhere. He stopped and squeezed himself against the wall as he let the tourists behind him pass. Finally he remained alone and went back down the stairway to find his friend. He had been in the pyramid many times and knew his way around as well as the tour guide so went down other passages in his search with confidence, not fearing he would get lost.

He dared not call out to Jeremiah lest he alert others one had strayed off. The Egyptian government frowned on such things and he wanted no trouble. He had long suspected the Egyptians were digging in the pyramids looking for ‘something.’ He did not know what.

“Abdul! I am here.” Jeremiah appeared suddenly behind him startling him into almost falling down a flight of stairs. Jeremiah caught and steadied him.

He collected himself and said, “What are you doing here? Have you found something?”

“Come with me. I will show you.” Jeremiah led him to a corner behind the stairs. “Do you see here? Someone has been digging. There are blocks of stone and dirt that go all the way back. They are looking for something. I think I know what they are looking for. Lucifer has been causing these people to secretly look for the Enoch books and the other artifacts that will lead to the weapon plans. They probably do not know that is what they are looking for. They think there are secret passages that will show them secrets of great power and they are right, but not in the way they think.”

“I have always suspected something was going on.” Abdul confided. “I have noticed these piles of rubble not only here but in the other pyramids as well. It is why I have stayed here so long. I am watching them. I know they have not found anything yet.”

“They will not find anything. They are looking in the wrong places.”

“You know where to look?” Abdul tried to curb his excitement.

“I only know the pyramids are not the place to look. I am going to go outside and study the Sphinx while there is still some light to see. It may hold the key. It is more ancient even than the pyramids. I wish to just sit and look at the stars and think for a while. Tell the others for me.”

“I will come with you.”

Jeremiah smiled and patted his friend’s shoulder. “No. I want you to be with them. I need to be alone for a while.”

XXX

“You say he wanted to be alone for a while?” Syd asked.

“Did he say where he was going?”

“He was heading toward the Sphinx to think, he said.”

The tourists had all left on their camels and busses. There was only the Hummer parked in the distance. Darkness began to shadow the mysterious monuments as they headed toward the Sphinx in search of Jeremiah. Even at night they intimidated with their size, antiquity and silence. Not wanting to disturb the atmosphere all of them walked in silence as they searched with their flashlights for the figure of Jeremiah.

They found him sitting between the paws of the Sphinx engrossed in thought and staring up at the panorama of stars above them.

Breaking the silence he said, “Have you ever seen so many stars? I have read the book, “The Orion Mystery” by Bauval and Gilbert. They state that this complex is a time marker for the year 10,500 B.C. because it matches the star pattern of the Orion constellation as it was in that year.  They are very close to the truth.”

“I read that one, too.” Syd said. “It ties in with what we have seen. No doubt about it. Does that mean you know where we need to go next?”

“I needed to sit and listen for the voice of God. I now know where to start looking. He is taking us one step at a time. All of us will need to go into this mysterious place. It will take us all to carry out the books and hide them in our robes. I must stay to change the plans in the ancient language. He has revealed to me how to do that. It will not take long.”

“How are we going to get these books through customs to take them out of the country?” Murphy sat beside Jeremiah and gazed up at the stars. He could not remember ever seeing so many and seeing them so clearly since they were in the very ancient past.

The others sat beside him and looked up as well, marveling at the beauty of the star filled sky.

“There is a Christian Coptic church at the outer edges of Cairo. I will take them there for now. They will know what to do. I have changed my mind about going to Israel. God has let me know I must entrust the books to them instead. They know where to keep them hidden.”

“How long must they be hidden?” Syd asked.

“Until after the Anti-Christ has been defeated. They must not come into his hands. The catching away of the church will be very soon. Even without the weapon the enemy will attempt to copy this ‘evacuation.’ Without the weapon Lucifer will have to use those space ships to abduct as many as he can and then imprison them. He and his minions, demon and human will then claim the rapture event as their own and many will believe it to be so. Those who know the people caught up in the true rapture will know better and many will repent and remain faithful to the end.

I am thankful we will be gone. Those seven years after the rapture will be terrible indeed!”

“Do you have any idea,” Murphy asked, “when these events will take place?”

“No one can know that. I only know time is short and we must finish our mission as quickly as possible.”

Jeremiah got up and dusted himself off and walked purposefully toward the left paw of the Sphinx. He stood and waited for the others. When they were all next to him he stomped the ground in a certain spot with a deliberate rhythm and pressure and a corridor opened. The walls were glowing.

XXX

The hall led downward to a great room. The walls were decorated with objects of gold and colorful gems as well as writing similar but not the same as hieroglyphics. As they traveled downward the writing changed.

Startled Syd asked, “Is that Hebrew?”

Jeremiah and Abdul nodded in the affirmative.

Jeremiah raced faster and faster as they neared their destination. The others strained to keep up.

They came to the ornate entrance to a room. There were pillars and golden statues encrusted with jewels on either side of the huge doors. They all stopped and took in the wonderful sight.

“Now I know what Carter must have felt when he first looked into Tut’s tomb and tried to describe what he saw and all he could say was, “wonderful things!” Murphy said.

“Indeed!” Abdul’s eyes were wide with wonder.

Jeremiah forged ahead and motioned to them to help him push open the great doors.

The statues and artifacts within were too wonderful to describe.

“To think this has been here for thousands of years,” Abdul breathed. “It looks as if it was put here yesterday.”

All of them went from one object to another admiring the art and beauty of the objects. The soft light that emanated from the walls accented the sparkle of the metals and jewels. The panorama of the stars in their constellations as they would have appeared thousands of years in the past glimmered in the deep blue ceiling giving the impression they were above the ground instead of deep within the earth.

Jeremiah stood in front of one of the walls and pushed gently with his right hand. A small doorway opened revealing a tiny bare room. “You must come here. This is what I have been looking for.”

The others reluctantly tore themselves from their exploration to see what Jeremiah wanted.

“You must all stand here.” He motioned them into the tiny room that barely held them all. As soon as they were in place the door closed behind them and the room became an elevator that dropped swiftly for several minutes causing them all to hold their stomachs in protest.

Finally it stopped and the door opened into another corridor similar to the one they had first entered.

“How far down are we?” Syd wanted to know. “Scientists with those underground sonar detectors know there is a room above us, but nothing points to anything like this.”

“That is why they will not find this room.” Jeremiah assured them.

“Then why move it?” Murphy looked puzzled.

“Lucifer may remember it is here eventually. They will not find it until he does…remember.”

“Why does he not remember it now?” Abdul asked.

“God has blinded him until the time is right. When he finds it he will think he has all the secrets there are. It is important for us to see that he does not.”

They moved down the glowing corridor decorated with a combination of Atlantean and Hebrew writing and nothing else. Jeremiah seemed to know exactly where he was going.

“There is a whole city down here, but all I am looking for is a room where there is a golden statue with a sapphire pedestal. According to the writings it should be just ahead.”

A small indentation in the hall indicated a room. Jeremiah once again put his hand on the wall next to it and it opened into the room with the statue he was looking for. He headed directly to the gemstone pedestal.

“The books are here. All of you must carry them.” He knelt down and touched the base and it opened to show stacks of scrolls. “They have been perfectly preserved. I will help you put them in your robes so they will not be damaged.”

“Aren’t you going to carry any?” Murphy asked as he opened his robes and started putting scrolls into the pockets within. The others did the same.

“I have another place I must go to change the weapon plans. It is not far. Wait for me here. After that I will take some of the scrolls from you.” Saying that he disappeared down the corridor while they continued carefully putting the many scrolls into the inside pockets of their robes.

XXX

The room Jeremiah entered was the oldest room of them all and offset from the rest of the corridor. He took in the crowded arrangement of all the artifacts. They were different from the rest. All the writings in this room were in the ancient language of Atlantis. He moved about the ancient room slowly until he found the cube, the black box and the remains of a being of ancient Atlantis. Writing tools were still in the hands of the perfectly preserved giant silver haired man. The bright golden eyes with their star shaped pupils seemed as if they could still see. Jeremiah stared at him wondering what had gone through this being’s mind before he died.

Shaking himself free of his reverie he found the black box, opened it and removed the contents reading through it amazed that it was in Hebrew and Atlantean both.  He found what he was looking for and quickly reached for the writing tools still in the dead man’s hands and rewrote one line of the instructions for the weapon.

Satisfied he replaced everything where he found them carefully wiping the box and tools with the edges of his robe to eliminate any trace of himself, took one last look around studying each piece as if to stamp it on his memory. Then he reluctantly left the room careful not to touch anything else. No one must ever know he had been here. This room would be found someday. He wanted no trace of himself left behind. He would tell the others to wipe down the pedestal as well.

He returned to the room where his friends were and nodded that all was done.

They helped him tuck the rest of the scrolls into his robes and they hurried down the hall to the elevator.

“Can’t we go see that room that you were in?” Murphy’s fascination with ancient civilizations needed further investigation of this fascinating place.

“There is no time. We must get these scrolls to the Coptic church and go back to the states.”

“Why the hurry, my friend?   What you came for is done.”

Syd and Murphy exchanged looks. “We’d like to know that too.”

“You must call Myrna when you get back to the hotel, Murphy. Then you will all know why.”
