Chapter Four

2630 B.C.

Methuselah’s white teeth flashed in a smile as he scanned the large group that comprised his student body. Many were here from other kingdoms, even Egypt. One student from Egypt was of special interest to him. The young man was brilliant in many fields. He had even accepted the worship of the one invisible and great God Creator.          The son of Enoch greeted his class with enthusiasm as he began teaching them from his father’s writings about the heavens, architecture, art, and medicine and how to move great weight with only a little effort using electromagnetic fields.

The student from Egypt was leaving to go back to his country and his king.

Methuselah congratulated him on his graduation and ambition to bring the word of God to the King of Egypt.

“You are a great teacher, my lord Enoch. There is one more thing I would like to learn.”

          “And that is..?”

“You are very old in years but look like a man still in his youth. Tell me your secret.”

Methuselah’s handsome face with its dark eyes and ready smile dimmed. He always became suspicious of such questions. He knew the reasons why some lived longer by centuries, but most were not ready for the answers he would give.

“When you look up at the heavens what do you see? Stars, planets? There is a great water wall there that protects us and magnifies what we see so we can study the cosmos. It also protects us from the harmful rays from the heavens.

Most of my people eat a restricted diet and stay away from strong drink and any kind of mind-altering drug. I know many in your country indulge in these things. It shortens their lives. You need to tell them.

God chooses some to live a little longer for certain reasons. That will all change after the…deluge. The water wall will be gone then and life will be shortened.” Methuselah told him no more about living longer.

“I’ve heard that myth about a flood. I know there was a flood in the beginning that turned to ice. It was the time of Chaos. I believe that is the flood you mean.”

Methuselah somberly shook his head. He knew it was useless to argue the point. People either believed it or not. He taught all his father told him. He had fulfilled his responsibility. His brothers had been lured away to seek their futures elsewhere and seemed to have forgotten what their father had taught them.

“You will make your proposal to the King, then?” He decided to change the subject.

“My king, Djoser sent me here to learn what I could and bring you to him. He has a proposal for you.”

“It would be an honor. I have heard many good things about your king. I will inform my family and come with you.”

.XXX

The son of Enoch accepted the proposal of the king of Egypt and began building a pyramid for him from what his father, the master craftsman, had taught him.

He became quite fond of the king and moved his family to be near him as he remained in Egypt to build pyramids and write his books of medicine and surgery to help the people.

He was fast becoming a legend among the people. He had stopped using the name given him by his father and was known by his Egyptian name…Imhotep.

God warned him that he must leave before people pressed him for the secrets to his long life. He had become the high priest of Ptah. This angered God. Fearing God’s further wrath he took his family and disappeared to his old home in a region unknown to the Egyptians. He left his writings on medicine and building plans for the pyramids in the Hall of Records.
